Classes - Lion Cubs

Welcome to Lion Cubs Class

Lion Cubs class is fun, noisy and very busy!

Our little Lion Cubs are bursting with energy and enthusiasm and are always ready for a new challenge!

Lion Cubs enjoy getting ‘sticky, messy and creative’! We believe that confidence, enjoyment and creativity is at the heart of the Early Years Foundation Stage and we strive to promote the children’s self-esteem and creativity through a wide range of role play, construction, music, dance, art and imaginative learning opportunities.

Outdoor learning plays an important role in the Early Years Foundation Stage. It provides a large space for physical, creative and exploratory activities which enable the children to observe and make sense of the natural environment.

The children have ‘free-flow’ access to a new foundation stage outdoor area. We are currently making plans with the support of the children to further develop our outdoor area to create even more stimulating learning opportunities outdoors. Watch this space!

Sometimes Lion Cubs like to take some ‘time out’ from the busy nature of the Foundation Stage and enjoy curling up on our big sofa in our comfy corner to have some quiet time and to share a book with some of their cuddly friends.

Here is some information about the curriculum that is taught and assessed in Lion Cubs class…

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is taught from birth to five years and is made up of six core areas of learning. These are:

Θ Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Θ Communication, Language and Literacy
Θ Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Θ Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Θ Physical Development
Θ Creative Development

The EYFS curriculum is weighted evenly between adult directed activities and child initiated and child led activities.

The children’s needs and interests play a core role in the planning for our weekly and daily tasks and activities.

PLAY! The value placed on play in the early years is very high. Children learn best when they are having fun; through carefully thought out and structured play activities. All staff in Lion Cubs class are highly skilled in moving the play forward and supporting children’s learning.
