Classes - Penguins

Peguins

Year 2

Just like the Emperor Penguin the year twos stand tall and proud, celebrating their continual successes. With their increased independence and the knowledge that they have lots of different means of support to tackle any task, whether as part of a team or independently, there’s definitely no waddling from this group of penguins!

Rather appropriately, the title to their learning experiences, ‘hooray….let’s go on holiday’, set the tone and with enthusiasm the penguins have explored the world, sharing their experiences of all the places they have travelled to over their years and then those of older family members. The entry point day provided the chance to find out what they know about some of the names of places in the wider world as they tried to crack the clues they each provided.

Some of them are here

Can you guess where these children have been? The children have since learnt to recognise many places in the wider world and have even drawn their own world maps!

Whilst all of this has been taking place we have been preparing to take a virtual class ‘holiday’. Our exit point will see the children discuss the different methods of travelling to France and choosing one to use when ‘travelling’ there so they can learn about common features, including famous landmarks. In preparation, the penguins have triumphantly learnt to greet one another and introduce themselves in French. When given a time deadline in class this has been done by counting in French however it has backfired as they are counting with such confidence they get far longer as we are now counting to such large numbers! To catch them out we now count back as well but their knowledge of numbers is proving so good that they are even keeping up with that too!

Tres Bien!
