Classes - Wagtails

Welcome to Wagtails. This year Mrs Hiller and Mrs Beecroft are joined by twenty eight loudly chirping (and questioningly inquisitive) Wagtails. When asked to list adjectives they would use to describe the children in our class the children wrote:

J
J
J
J
J
J
J

happy
lively
hardworking
kind
caring
fun
helpful

To name but a few!

Wagtails have settled in well to the new school year and have enjoyed all aspects of their learning, especially as the new cross curricular IPC has meant the consistency of learning all about different types of journeys.  A particular favourite has been looking at different ways journeys can be made and we all thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Llangollen Steam Railway.

Another new learning initiative which has been seen and most certainly heard in Wagtails this year is the Big Write and the children have enthusiastically risen to the VCOP challenge (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers, Punctuation) and are including all of these basic VCOP skills in their work. They can often be heard throughout the school as they loudly chant their own VCOP song in the classroom!

Following this, they are now thoroughly enjoying Big Talk and have begun to find out all about many of the different things we see on a daily basis but don’t know much about. In the top5 so far they have been reading about ducks, waterfowl and leaves and the list of other possible keeps growing – Keeping it down to the top 5 in each category is proving the challenge! They (and we, the teachers!) are learning so much, talking is definitely not proving a problem!
