Early Years Foundation Stage

At Parkgate we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage which is underpinned by 4 main themes. They are, 'unique child,' 'positive relationships,' 'enabling environments' and 'learning and development.' Children are assessed across 7 area of learning which are: Communication & Language, Maths, Literacy, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Expressive Arts & Design, Physical Development and Knowledge & Understanding of the World.

Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them. Development is not an automatic process, however. It depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments. At Parkgate Primary School we do exactly this, motivate, stimulate and nurture your child's learning in a fun and positive environment!

On-going formative assessment is at the heart of effective early years practice. This enables our experienced practitioners to support children’s learning and development, by closely matching what they provide to a child’s current needs. By doing this we can observe children as they act and interact in their play, everyday activities and planned activities, and learn from parents about what the child does at home through Tapestry and our EYFS home observations.
