Extra Curricular At
Parkgate we value music as a way in which to enhance many aspects of the
children's learning. All children have access to a varied music
curriculum where emphasis is placed on participation and enjoyment.
Children have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument
which includes the flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, piano,
cornet, trumpet, recorder and guitar. These lessons occur after
school in the school building from 3-5pm. In addition to this ALL
children in year 5 learn to play a musical instrument during their
weekly music lessons every Monday morning from 11-12noon. Children are
offered the chance to learn how to play a woodwind instrument, a brass
instrument or a percussion instrument (glockenspiel and drums).
Our many extra
curricular music clubs include beginner and advanced recorder, orchestra
(Spring/Summer term only), drama club (Autumn term only) and a junior
performing choir.
All
children are involved in singing but the ‘performing choir’ perform at
various school and community events through out the year: e.g. local
church events, Alzheimer’s Society Christmas luncheon etc.

The choir also performs at the ‘Light for Love’ Christmas event
at Claire House – our school charity.
Claire
House is the school’s local charity:
Claire
House is a centre of excellence providing 24 hour respite,
palliative, and terminal care for children and young people from
0 - 23 years of age with a life threatening or life limiting
illness, and their families.

One of our parents, Mr Neil Gyllenship and his friend Mr Dean Jagger are
also involved in raising funds for this wonderful charity. Here is a
link from their website:
In December 2009 we are going to take
on the challenge of a lifetime by rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic
Ocean. Undoubtedly the toughest challenge of our lives. Our goal is to
complete the race and in doing so raise money for our chosen charities,
Claire House and Child Flight. Throughout 2009 and leading up to
race day we will be fundraising like never before. We have various
events taking place (see events page) in order for us to raise our
target of £46,000 needed to complete the challenge. Once this target has
been reached, we hope to raise in the region of £100,000 for our
charities. Please see
http://www.teamheatwave.co.uk/ for further details.
