Governors Parkgate Primary School’s Governors are responsible for determining the aims and overall conduct of the school. Their specific duties include setting staffing levels, appointing the headteacher, setting and agreeing the school budget, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered, and monitoring health and safety and the management of the premises. The governors have strategic responsibility for planning; implementation and management is the role of the headteacher and staff. The governors work in partnership with the headteacher and the local authority to ensure that our pupils receive the best possible education. All our governors are volunteers. They are appointed, or elected, for a four year term. If you would like more information about serving as a governor, please contact the school. In March 2011 our Board is made up of:
Governors serve on subcommittees. Currently the main three are Leadership & Management, Teaching & Learning, and Children, Community & environment. Individual governors also have particular responsibilities. For example, Amanda Nickson is our Special Educational Needs and Child Protection governor. Every month one governor acts as “Governor of the Month” and attends as many school activities as possible. Finally, Governors are each allocated to a class and make arrangements to visit the staff and children each term if possible.
Governors are available to speak to at Parents Evenings, or can be
contacted through the school office at any other time.
