Welcome to Parkgate Primary School Parent Teacher
Association (PTA) web page. Who are we? Every parent or guardian who has a child at Parkgate Primary School is automatically a member of the PTA. There are no ‘joining fees’ or ‘annual subscriptions’! The PTA is run by a committee made up of parents and school staff, who meet regularly throughout the year. Notices are placed at school indicating the time and the place. You do not have to be on the committee to come to the meetings, all are extremely welcome. The meetings are generally sociable and a great way of getting to know other parents and school staff. The committee arranges events, and then enlists the help of other parents to support and run them. Our aims The PTA aims to help the school, and our children, primarily by fundraising to provide extra resources for the school, which the normal school budget does not allow for. The PTA also organises some events which are non profit-making, but are enjoyable social activities, to continue to build on the good community spirit within the school. How do we achieve our aims? This is done by organising and running various social events throughout the school year, to raise money which is passed on to the school. The Headteacher provides the committee with a ‘wish list’ of items for the PTA to contribute towards. For example, we have recently bought interactive white boards, a bicycle rack, library books, new blackout curtains for the school hall, and we contributed to the installation of the shading in the play area at the front of the school. Each year we make a sizeable contribution to the cost of broadband access for the children at school. This is only a small part of what we contribute towards. The events we organise include Christmas and Summer Fairs, summer barbeque, discos, wine-tasting evenings, treasure trails and in Spring 2007 we had our first Spring Ball, held at Thornton Hall Hotel. We try to ring the changes a little from year to year, to give us all a bit of variety! Obviously, these events take a lot of organising and the PTA is always seeking helpers. If you feel you can spare the time to join the committee or would simply be willing to help at an event please don’t hesitate to contact us through the school office, or just come along to one of our meetings. Even if you can’t commit to joining the committee or helping at an event, please help your children and the school by supporting one or more of the events we organise. Your support is invaluable.
