ResidentialsResidentials form an important part of the curriculum at Parkgate Primary School. Children from Year 2 right through to Year 6 have the opportunity to go away each year. This gives the children the chance to have intensive courses in art, dance, environmental studies and outdoor pursuits. As a school we also see the value of the trips as a chance for the children to develop personal and social skills. Kestrels During the spring term Kestrel class went on a residential to Tattenhall for 3 days and 2 nights. We made African masks from a template and mod-roc and painted them in different styles. We also learnt a special dance to African music based on the African story of Ananse, which we performed for the school in our class assembly. We even took part in an African drumming workshop where we got to have a go at playing hand drums, stick drums and learn an African song. We came home absolutely exhausted but very happy!
Wrens In November 2009, Wren class visited the Delamere Education Centre (Foxhowl centre) in Cheshire for a 3 day and 2 night residential visit. We had a great time! Here are some pictures to prove it:
Heron Class In the summer term we visited the Conway Centre for our class residential trip. We stayed at the centre for three days and two full nights. At first lots of children felt homesick but we had so much to do the homesickness soon disappeared! When we first arrived we had our lunch in the play area and then had a tour of the main centre. After the tour the fun activities began!! Over the three days our activities included drama, dance and art. All our activities were linked to our whole school topic of the 1960’s. In art we had to paint on canvas a 1960’s colourful psychedelic pattern. The whole class enjoyed painting and getting messy! We also enjoyed going to the tuck shop in the evenings. At night we had a chat until 9pm and then the lights went off (some people kept on talking) and then people fell asleep. In dance we did warm up’s, small group games and big dances that were all related to the theme of the 1960’s. In our spare time we played on one of the three play areas or on the field with our sport equipment. We all thoroughly enjoyed our residential trip and we are all looking forward to going back next summer!! By Ben Thomas and Ben Brookes
Merlin Class On the second of June the year6’s of Merlin class ventured to the Kepplewray center in the Lake District for their annual visit, lasting a whole week. For the second time they went with Bishop Wilson Primary school. All of the children loved every minute of it (well maybe not walking up a mountain), but other than that it was a great success! Even Mrs. Watkins enjoyed it! Everyday was challenging yet fun with great activities like ghyll scrambling, canoeing, archery and abseiling, to name a few. Everyone had brilliant team skills which came in handy in the many team challenges, like the spider’s web and the seesaw maze. I’m sure the rest of the class will agree with me when I say we all want to go again next year but unfortunately we will all be at High School. Nevertheless this was a greatest school residential the year6’s have had.
