In English at school we have been doing some work based on 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. I thought whilst you are at home it would be nice to do some work on one of his other books - 'Stuck'.
Read the story (attached below).
In school we have been learning about nouns and adjectives.
An adjective - a describing word e.g. big, yellow, soft etc.
A noun - the name of a person, a place or a thing e.g. Miss Morris, Parkgate, dog, chair etc.
When you put an adjective and a noun together e.g. 'blue jumper' - it creates a noun phrase.
Today you are going to describe Floyd. Print the picture below (or draw your own) and label it using using adjectives and noun phrases. Think about what he looks like and what his character/personality is like.
Some ideas: small, red hair, thin legs, silly, determined etc.
Please email me pictures of your super work!
The maths work put on the website for home learning will be a recap of the what we have been learning in school, so that we can continue from where we left off when we return. Where possible I will try to find games and activities linked to the topic that the children can complete independently if they would like to, but please don't feel like you have to get through everything.
Today you will be sorting objects. Go through the interactive teaching slides.
Ask an adult to give you a collection of counters to sort - https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/counters
(Parents - you can give give a mix of colours and different shapes using the drop down menu).
Have a go at sorting them. How have you sorted them? Can you sort them any other way? How many groups have you got? How many are in each group?
Have a go at the worksheet below. Answers are attached.
Have a go at these challenge questions.
Extra activity - Have a go at sorting these objects on to the sorting cards.
Watch this video of the author/illustrator of 'Stuck' drawing a picture of Floyd - https://youtu.be/NsHZbDCXVvI
Draw some pictures of Floyd throwing different objects in to a tree (it can be anything you want!).
