English - This week we will be writing a story setting for a Traditional Tale with a twist. Look at the front and back cover below and use it to predict what fairytale this will be similar to. Make predictions about what you think is going to happen in the story? What will be the same as 'Jack and the Beanstalk'? What will be different? Read the blurb on the back of the book. How has the author made you want to read this book? What exciting vocabulary have they used? Explain any word meanings that your child doesn't understand. Now using the full powerpoint or the video version read Jack and the Baked Beanstalk.Focusing on the picture of the burger van setting - imagine walking through it and sitting down. Close your eyes and use your senses to create a picture in your mind of smells, sounds, tastes, sights (an example is attached if you need it).
Maths - This week we will be focusing on measuring length and height using centimetres (cm). Use the attached powerpoint to explain and teach your child how to use a ruler to measure with centimetres. As per slide four ask your child to choose a variety objects in the home that are less than 30cm and measure them with a ruler. Be careful to distinguish to your child the difference between length and height. Record them in a table in your book. Challenge: Cut a piece of string and lay it out as on slide five. Ask your child to measure it and see what they do. If they don't straighten it out to measure encourage them to do this.
